Introduction to the Tooth Fairy Myth
Originating from English folkore, the Tooth Fairy visits children at night and exchanges money for their milk tooth (baby tooth) that has fallen out. Traditionally the tooth is placed under the child's pillow and the exchange is made whilst the child sleeps. The myth of the fairy dates back to the ancient Celtic civilisation and became a popular image in Shakespearean times. It became an established part of American folklore in the 1900's.
All children love the Tooth Fairy as they look forward to a gift of a coin - it is also a symbol of rites of passage. A lost tooth is the first sign of growing up.
Curious children may ask what happens to all the teeth that the Tooth Fairy collects, on a clear night high in the sky they will find countless stars glimmering and sparkling - there they will find the answer.
